Lecture: Quadrant graphs
You are looking at the mirror worlds to categorise different info, compare and analyse for idea generation. It’s a form of worldbuilding= consider location, PESTL factors, prominent local individuals and relationships.
Design fiction= fiction and drama, testing the future to see what technologies work, will be received and their impact -> reveal current attitudes/ prejudices/ behaviour. Blax box ideas are those that are not completely realistic.
Representing behaviours= stories of what people will do in these environments

– An example he used to describe non tangible aspects of design= lines at Disney are important, they are a design issue, you can make then more enjoyable…peoples perceptions are wrong, they think they wait longer than usual they use design to make you think you waited less than you did. As well as in McDonalds, where you don’t realize the drive around the building is a delaying tactic for them to make the food- the line is important.
– In service design you have the employee and the customer (satisfaction/retention). Forget about efficiency and optimization and focus on it being a better experience
– Apple didn’t invent they exploited (touch screen, database system), they used DRM which means when you buy it your stuck, you cant use it with any random devices so when you get it you have to get accessories specific to it. Compnies have to pay apple 10% of their sales to use their apple certified logo.
– Front stage- customers Back stage= background
– Importance of user observation. Quadrant Graphs can be used as a tool for understanding (and designing for) future scenarios – i.e: as a means of asking where we want to go and how might we get there (by design)
Drivers of change and research:
• Our definite drivers of change- Mass consumption vs ethical consumption and urbanization vs counter urbanization
• Our sources- Evidence of real life situations of mass consumption and urbanization, for example inner-west Australian areas going through the production of supercenters and attractions. China is also a huge example with fold away houses/ apartments:

Understanding your design team
Our team consists of interior, visual communication and fashion designers who in this year 2030 will operate through a communicative and collaborative process.
In broad terms the types of clients that we will be focusing on will be the people in this rural society that have no regard for sustainability or conservation. To be able to target a specialised market the new skills required by our team include market segmentation, market research and understanding the internal/ external environment. Through my research, products that our design team could offer clients would need to fix the issues that their carelessness has brought about. Examples of these include services such as educational seminars that arise the awareness of these issues or products that implement resource-consuming measures, for example a device that watches your water usage and tells you the time left you have for water use for this activity. These devices could become compulsorily so that the people who have no concern for this issue must abide by the system.
